I love these huge icicles that form on the sandstone cliffs surrounding the creeks and rivers of southern WV. It’s so quiet in winter and the formations make me feel like I’m walking through Nature’s Cathedral.

Make a photograph that illustrates an aspect of communication.

I had one shot left on my color film pack. I decided to do an abstract, panning shot. I had envisioned in my head how it would look.

This was not exactly as I pictured it

However, since photography is a means of communication and abstract photography can mean whatever the viewer wants it to mean, I hope you find meaning in it and then tell me what it is.

I’m not sure how many times we’ve done red in a year. January’s kind of a hard month to find red outside. Anyway, there’s some red in this photo.

Please don’t let tomorrow’s assignment be “green.”

This is my new Polaroid camera. It’s a behemoth. It is an SLR with a 127mm Mamiya lens and a Polaroid back for pack film. Note the hand grip. That’s the shutter button on it.

The little guy is an Olympus C5050Z which is now eight years old and still kicking. Note how frayed the strap is.

Taken with my Pentax K10D which is in between the two in size.

I had to take a break from my Polaroid metatheme today because I was out all day and there is no way I know of to keep the pack film stable at these below freezing temperatures.

If you count the photo of my Land Camera 250 which was not a Polaroid but a photo of a Polaroid camera, I did make one week.

Anyway, I used my Olympus C5050Z which fits in my purse.

This river floods every spring. It’s all bottom land and swampy here. It’s mostly farms.

Illustrate coldness in a photograph today.

Brushy Creek is almost frozen over now.

Btw, I risked my life for this photo driving on mountain roads that had not been plowed with 100 foot drops, curves and hills and no guardrails.

Well, I am used to it so that might be a little hyperbole.

I ended up standing on the creek itself. Not on purpose because I actually don’t want to get wet when it’s 21 degrees out.

But I couldn’t see where it was and when i moved the snow aside with my hiking boot, sure enough it was ice underneath.

It just felt so GOOD to get out and hike!!
